Many people with cystic fibrosis will have cystic fibrosis-related diabetes (CFRD) by the time they are an adult. Yet, not a lot is known about the chances of having other health problems that are caused by CFRD. These health problems can be related to the heart, eyes, kidneys, and nerves. Doctors and researchers are finding that CFRD needs more medical research to understand its impact on those affected.

SPeCTRuM invites everyone who qualifies to join!

To participate, you need to meet a few requirements.

    1. You need to have had CFRD for at least five years.
    2. You must be 12 years of age or older.
    3. You cannot be pregnant.
    4. You cannot have had a transplant.
    5. Understand the consent form.

Both pregnancy and transplant can make diabetes look different. The goal of this study is to look at diabetes affected by CF. Our SPeCTRuM Research Site Locator is easy to use and can help find the closest research site where you can join the SPeCTRuM study. Click the button below:

Collaborators Driving This Study Forward

SPeCTRuM has become possible through the teamwork of multiple groups. The study was designed with the help of a Community Advisory Group (CAC), who are a group of community members who have CF or are the parents of children with CF.

Another vital group is our experienced researchers and doctors that practice in different fields. The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation (CFF) continues to help the CF community by supporting studies like SPeCTRuM. Jaeb Center for Health Research (JCHR) is active in the research community and will be this study’s coordinating center. You can learn more about each group by going here.
